Description: The Source Water Assessment and Protection Program (SWAPP) is designed to provide proactive planning and protection of public drinking water supplies. The SWAPP data set provides a three-tiered polygon delineation of the areas of contribution to drinking water intakes on streams, rivers, lakes and reservoirs.Zone 1 (Critical Zone) begins ¼ mile below the intake site and extends 5 miles upstream of the intake. Zone 2 (Zone of Responsibility) extends the protection area to 10 miles above the intake. Zone 3 (Zone of Potential Impact) extends to 25 miles above the intake or to the hydrologic boundary. This data set is published as one merged statewide data set, to show spatial extent of coverage (i.e. where protection zone 3 areas overlap, the individual polygons are merged).
